October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is a great time to raise awareness by holding events in memory of those who have lost their lives at the hands of their abusers. It is also a time to celebrate all survivors of intimate partner violence.
Local events include free training sessions and a candlelight vigil. The schedule of events is online at DV Awareness Month Calendar of Events.
The month’s events kick off Thursday, October 3, with the annual candlelight vigil honoring the fallen victims killed by their intimate partners in the State of North Carolina over the past year.
The vigil begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Beatties Ford Road Regional Library, located at 2412 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte.
