This Memorial Day weekend, the American Red Cross and Carowinds invite people to give the gift of life, honor military men and women, and enjoy family time at their Military Appreciation blood drive. 

The event will take place on Friday, May 24, from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Boaters invited to movie night on Lake Wylie every month this summer

Boaters invited to movie night on Lake Wylie every month this summer

This summer, boaters on Lake Wylie are invited to a monthly movie night on the water.

Each month, from May to August, Lake Wylie Marina is presenting a free family-friendly movie for all boaters in the area to enjoy.

The movies will be displayed on a 50’ by 30’ screen, with FM transmitters providing sound through your boat’s speakers.

This month’s movie will be held Friday, May 17, around 8:30 p.m., or sunset.

York County Ballet: The Little Mermaid

The York County Ballet is presenting its production of The Little Mermaid this week.

Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton is unhappy with her life in the sea and wants to join the humans above the surface.

When Ariel tries to strike a deal with Ursula, the Sea Witch, she finds trouble that she didn't bargain for.

The York County Ballet Company was founded in 1978 to further educate young dancers, provide cultural experiences to local schools and to offer a repertoire of original and classical dance works to the community at large.

Theater-goers can catch opening night at Winthrop University's Johnson Hall Theatre, located at 1920 Alumni Drive in  Rock Hill, Thursday May 16, at 8 p.m.

Additional evening performances are offered Friday May 18 and Saturday May 18, at 8 p.m. Matinees can be enjoyed Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, at 3 p.m.

Admission is $12 and open to the public.

Public invited to free festival downtown

The Lancaster County Council of the Arts is hosting its 4th Annual Red Rose Festival this weekend.

Live entertainment can be enjoyed while shopping for collectibles and hand-crafted items, such as art, jewelry, children's clothing and crafts.

A Kids Zone is available for children to scale a rock-climbing wall, slide down an 18-foot slide, bounce around, and relax on a carousel.

Food vendors are set to offer funnel cakes, hot dogs, barbecue, and fun southern food.

Festival-goers can join the fun on Catawba Street and in the City Hall parking lot at historic downtown Lancaster, Friday May 17, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. The festival continues Saturday May 18, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

iVenture Event promises outdoor fun for the whole family

York County families are invited to come out to “iVenture”, a fun-filled event where parents and kids can enjoy the great outdoors while discovering new activities together.  The event is free and will take place on Saturday, May 11, at Westminster Park located at 4000 India Hook Road in Rock Hill, from 10 a.m.
