Town of Clover to host 125th Anniversary Premiere Party

The Town of Clover will be hosting its 125th Anniversary Premiere Party this month.

The party will be held at the Larne Building, located at 103 N. Main Street in Clover on Saturday, February 23, at 7 p.m.

The new Clover Hall of Fame will be unveiled as well as the Clover Through the Years Exhibit. Attendees to the event will also get to see the debut of the new Clover 2012 Movie.  

Tickets are currently on sale at Clover Town Hall, located at 114 Bethel Street, for $20 per person.

American Heart Association celebrates National Wear Red Day

American Heart Association celebrates National Wear Red Day

The American Heart Association (AHA) is inviting the public to show its support on National Wear Day.

The Association's 'Go Red for Women' program celebrates the energy, passion and combined power that women possess to wipe out heart disease and stroke, through education and action.

According to the AHA, the death rate for women has dropped in the last ten years. Furthermore, awareness has gone up from 22% to well over 50%.

Those who wish to show their support can wear red on Friday, February 1.

Donations are also encouraged, and can be made through the Association's website.

York County Sports Hall of Fame inducts the class of 2013

York County Sports Hall of Fame inducts the class of 2013

The York County Sports Hall of Fame will celebrate its 13th induction ceremony with the announcement of the Class of 2013.

The event will be held on May 14, 2013 at the Events at Manchester, located at 1965 Cinema Drive in Rock Hill.

Six inductees will join the York County Sports Hall of Fame this year.

Inductees include:

Ron Davis - three time state tennis champion at Rock Hill High School. Davis was also a seven time singles USTA champion and a five time doubles champion. Davis was the number one player at Winthrop University.

Ivory Latta – basketball star at York Comprehensive High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Latta currently plays in the WMBA; once scored 70 points in a game.

Marty Long – All-State athlete in football and track at Northwestern High School. Long played football at the Citadel from 1982 - 1986.

Martin Luther King Jr. observance at Town Hall

The Town of Fort Mill is observing the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with music and poetry.

The ceremony begins with an invocation by Reverend Linda Hill.

Faith Christian Ministries is providing the entertainment with gospel music and a poetry reading is being presented by Reverend Leroy Murdock.

Ending the service is a benediction by Reverend Phillip Cargile.

The service is at the Fort Mill Town Hall, located at 112 Confederate Street in Fort Mill, Monday January 21, at 11 a.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Moped 2 Memphis "Studio 54 Disco" Prom to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital

Moped to Memphis is holding its 2nd Annual Second Chance Prom to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital this weekend.

This year, the Prom is a 70’s themed “Studio 54 Disco,” so come dressed in your bellbottoms, platform shoes, and pointy collars to “hustle the night away”!

There will be dancing, a silent auction with lots of great items to bid on, door prizes, and tons of fun.

You may also bring a pair of new children’s pajamas that will be distributed to St. Jude patients by Bailey, a patient at St. Jude, as part of Bailey’s Jammie Jubilee.

The Prom takes place Saturday, January 19, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Larne Building, located at 103 N. Main Street in Clover.

Tickets are $25, and include entry, food, beer and wine. All participants must be 21 years old.

Sheriff's Office receives Palmetto Pride Grant

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that on December 30, it received a $2,533 PalmettoPride Grant.

The grant will be used to purchase surveillance cameras to monitor problem areas throughout the county, the Sheriff's Office said. 

PalmettoPride is a legislative initiative created to fight litter and help beautify South Carolina. It was created in response to citizens’ concerns regarding the amount of litter in South Carolina.

Originally established in 1999, by executive order under Governor Hodges, PalmettoPride has been on the front lines in the fight against litter for over 10 years.

Lancaster County Sheriff Faile said, “Once again we are pleased to be the recipient of a grant that will help us fund equipment that will improve the quality of service we provide to the county at no cost.”

5k Race benefits those affected by substance abuse

Melissa Davis Boyd and her family are holding a 5k run this week, to honor Melissa's brother who lost his battle against addiction.

Joe Davis was only 28, when he suffered an accidental drug overdose following eighteen months of sobriety.

The first annual 'Joe Davis Memorial Resolution Run' benefits Keystone Substance Abuse Services, a private non-profit organization that offers education, prevention and treatment to invididuals and families dealing with alcohol and/or drug related issues.

Runners can join the one-mile race at Walter Elisha Park in Fort Mill, Saturday January 5, at 9 a.m.

Online Registration is available for $25 until midnight on January 3. Alternatively, participants can sign-up on the day of the race for a cost of $30.
